Wet, chilly conditions expected today

2013-09-21 00:00

IT is set to be wet and chilly throughout KZN today, and it might even snow a bit in the Midlands.

Durban weather forecaster Stacy Colborne said Pietermaritzburg will experience a minimum temperature of six degrees Celsius and a maximum of 14 degrees. She said there is a good chance of rain showers throughout the day province-wide.

The cold is part of a front sweeping up from the Cape, where there was snow on the mountains, including Table Mountain, yesterday.

By tomorrow, the weather will be clearing and the temperatures are expected to be back in the mid-twenties.

The Department of Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs (Cogta) issued a strong warning to members of the public regarding the possibility of snow over the weekend.

Cogta MEC Nomusa Dube said her disaster management team were prepared for any eventuality and on full alert.

Among those who could shiver as the mercury plunges after this week’s Berg wind heatwave, are campers at the White Mountain music festival near Giant’s Castle.
