Willowton: Boy (7) killed in hit and run

2012-05-05 00:00

A SEVEN-YEAR-OLD boy was killed by a hit-and-run driver in Willowton Road, Pietermaritzburg, at about 2 pm yesterday.

Andile Goge, who was in grade one at Forest Hill Primary School, died instantly when he was struck by a silver Toyota Corolla.

The accident happened in front of his nine-year-old sister and other pupils.

“The driver of the car stopped after realising he had hit something. After seeing the body of the boy, he sped off,” said an eyewitness, Lungi Ngcobo.

“I did not think to take down his number plate because I saw him stop. I ran to the child to see if I could help him, and when I looked up, he was speeding off.”

A policeman said a CCTV camera filmed the scene, but it was unclear whether they could make out the number plate of the vehicle.

Police spokesperson Lieutenant Joey Jeevan appealed to anyone who might have information about the incident to come forward.
