Winter air tour: rain or shine, the Maritzburg show must go on

2012-06-23 00:00

NOT even predictions of partly cloudy weather with a 60% chance of rain will spoil Pietermaritzburg’s eagerly awaited Winter Air Tour today.

“We had a show in Richards Bay and it rained, but the show continued. The show will continue even if it rains,” said Piet van der Spek, one of the organisers.

This is the fourth leg of the tour, which has already entertained people in Newcastle, Richards Bay and Ulundi. After Pietermaritzburg, it makes its way to Margate and finishes in Durban.

“The aim of the tour is to promote the six regional airports in the province,” tour spokesperson Justin Scott told Weekend Witness.

The show, being held from 10 am to 3 pm, will showcase Pietermaritzburg Airport to people interested in conducting business in the area and will feature an exciting line-up of 51 exhibitions.

The tour is part of Economic Development MEC Mike Mabuyakhulu’s plan to see the province becoming the prime events’ destination in the country.

People can look forward to seeing aircraft such as the L39 jet, the Ecko Yaks, the Zoo York Zlins, the Mazda Zoom Zoom team and Gabriel Pitt Specials.

Tickets cost R50 for adults and R30 for children.
