Winterfest: organisers promise ‘biggest concert in the history of the city’

2011-05-24 00:00

AN event billed by organisers as the “biggest concert in the history of the city” is set for June 11 at the Royal Showgrounds.

The K & K PMB Winterfest — sponsored by Klipdrift, KFC, The Witness, Interpak Books, Lara Travel and the Hilton Protea Hotel — is organised by MRJ Events, which staged the Oktoberfest at Pecanwood near Howick last year.

The fun will start in the afternoon when the crowd can relax and enjoy the vibe with the opening acts, after which the semi-finals of the Super 15 rugby will be screened.

After the rugby finishes, the main concert acts will take the stage at 6 pm. Acts include award-winning groups and artists like Jax Panik, Kurt Darren, Zebra and Giraffe, Flash Republic, a King, Snotkop and Redlight Stereo.

Said event organiser Jared Wilson,“We hope the people are going to come out in their numbers and enjoy the concert.

“This will be the first time any of the artists have performed in Pietermaritzburg, which makes the show an event not to be missed as it will surely put Pietermaritzburg on the map.”

The organisers are planning to stage similar concerts every year.

There will be a huge bar area to prevent people standing in queues, along with activities and loads of drink specials all night.

To listen to the artists perform, follow the MRJ events page and view the videos, or click the link to go directly there. All videos are accessible at www.facebook.com/pages/MRJ-Events/

Alcohol is strictly not for sale to persons under the age of 18.
