Winter’s here: Let’s make it warm and woolly for the worst-off

2009-06-12 00:00

MAKE it a warm winter this year. The recent cold snap and snow in the Berg has meant that winter is finally here, albeit a little late, and a walk through town early in the morning quickly shows that everyone has bundled up against the cold weather — well, not quite everyone!

Hard times, coupled with cold weather, are the bleakest time of the year for the poor in our communities. With little food and certainly no money for luxuries, those who are elderly and malnourished are the most vulnerable –— and that’s where The Witness and East Coast Radio are hoping to make a difference, with your help, of course!

The annual Winter Warmth campaign, run by East Coast Radio, comes to Pietermaritzburg on June 23 and will be at The Witness offices from noon until 3 pm that day, but The Witness collection point is open — and we want to have a mountain of blankets to contribute! So bring your blankets in to The Witness reception, pile them up and let’s keep those less fortunate than ourselves warm this winter.
