Woman attacked on farm

2008-02-15 00:00

A Greytown woman has been left traumatised after she was attacked in her kitchen by an intruder yesterday morning.

Police spokeswoman, Inspector Joey Jeevan, said that 30-year-old Debbie Payne was in her kitchen at 7.15 am when she heard her dogs bark. She went out to investigate, but saw nothing suspicious so went back into the kitchen.

She was then confronted by a man armed with a knife. He held the knife to her neck and a scuffle ensued, said Jeevan.

“The intruder hit her on the head, possibly with a frying pan.” Payne managed to break away and locked herself in the bedroom where she called her husband. He alerted Farmwatch Security who rushed to the scene, but when they arrived the intruder had fled.

Jeevan said that police believed a second accomplice was also at the farm and had kept the dogs at bay whilst the woman was being attacked. Payne’s two small children were also in the bedroom, said Jeevan.
