Woman found drowned

2012-09-25 00:00

POLICE divers searched yesterday for the body of a woman thought to have drowned after falling into the Msunduzi River at the Woodhouse Road low-level bridge on Saturday afternoon.

High water levels and low temperature hampered the search early in the day. In the afternoon the divers had to call off the search after covering about six kilometres downstream because the water was too cold.

Lieutenant Jack Haskins, of the Pietermaritzburg K9 search and rescue unit, said yesterday afternoon that they had received a call that there was a body of a woman floating 15 km downstream from the bridge.

He said the woman, aged between 35 and 40, was yet to be identified and that her body was not in a bad state, an indication that she had not been in the water for a long time.
