‘Woman is part of plot to destroy me’

2010-08-16 00:00

THE KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Social Development, Meshack Radebe, claims that a woman who has been calling him repeatedly and sending him text messages in the past four months for the two of them to meet may have been planted by some of his detractors in the ANC to destroy him.

Yesterday’s City Press reported that 35-year-old Khanyisile Mtambo of Newcastle was referred to the MEC by Doleza Mhlanga, who is Radebe’s colleague and an ANC member.

Radebe was quoted as saying, “He (Mhlanga) told me he had organised me a beautiful woman. Now I realise it was just a set-up to destroy me.”

Mhlanga has denied there is a conspiracy, saying that he thought Radebe and Mtambo were to “discuss family issues”.

City Press quoted Mtambo as saying that Radebe had promised to arrange a government grant for her as she wants to farm and that she does not chase men — they come after her.

The paper reported that Radebe is among leading politicians in the province who are believed to be behind an alleged assassination plot against the KwaZulu-Natal Premier, Zweli Mkhize.

The report said Radebe has denied any relationship with Sizwe Mkhize (no relation to the premier), one of the accused, who confessed at the Pinetown Magistrate’s Court in July that he was hired by politicians in the province to assassinate the premier.
