Woman traumatised after being slapped

2013-06-13 00:00

A HOWICK woman was left traumatised yesterday after she was slapped by an unknown man in an apparent road rage incident.

The woman, who asked not to be named for fear of her safety, said she was driving to work behind her husband yesterday when the incident, which left her shaken and scared, happened along the Howick Main Road.

In tears, the woman (32) told The Witness her husband was going straight and she was turning right when a red Opel Astra suddenly stopped in front of her.

“The car came speeding past, and he slammed on his brakes and stopped in front of me. The man got out and was grabbing my door trying to get me to get out,” the badly shaken woman said yesterday.

Surprised at what had just happened, she said she immediately apologised as he continued to launch profanity after profanity at her.

“He then slapped me across the face, and the other people he was with got out of the car and were also coming. I then grabbed my phone to take a photo and they got back into the car,” she said.

When she started driving again, she said the man followed her in his car, and she had to take a different route to get to work.

Police spokesperson Captain Lolly Moodley said the man went to the police station to report that he had been involved in an argument in traffic, but that police had not taken the man’s details.

Moodley also said a case of assault had been opened against the man at the Howick police station.
