Woman’s robbery ordeal

2014-09-13 00:00

A PIETERMARITZBURG woman spoke of her terror when she was attacked by robbers in her home in the early hours of yesterday.

Audrey Delport, a Scottsville resident who rents an out-building in Ridge Road, said she was barely awake when two men kicked down her front door and entered her home.

They bound her hands behind her back with a belt and tied her legs with a woolen scarf.

She “watched in horror” as they rummaged through her home looking for money and valuable items.

“They were flinging all my clothes around and shouting at me for money. I cannot tell you how petrified I was. I thought I was going to die,” said Delport.

The intruders left her on the bed and attempted to break into the main house on the property.

When they returned, Delport had managed to free herself. She said the assailants were furious.

One of them then stayed behind to guard her while the other went back to the main house.

“He stood leaning against the door. He kept staring at me and saying that he doesn’t trust me. I had to stay on the bed for three hours. I couldn’t even go to the bathroom,” Delport said.

They eventually fled, leaving her unhurt.

The robbers only got away with some cash, gate remote and keys to the property.

She described the assailants as “one huge one and one small one”. They had tied scarves around their faces to hide their identities.

This is the second reported house robbery in the Scottsville area this week.
