Woman’s terror after robbery

2014-10-08 00:00

A DOMESTIC worker for the Benedict Community House in Cedara yesterday relived the terror she endured when she was robbed by two men.

Maria Monaheng (54) had just woken on Saturday morning and was walking to the missionary house when she was confronted by a man.

“This man grabbed me by my neck as if he was strangling me, and when I tried to fight him back he called for back-up,” she said.

Another man arrived and together they beat and then gagged her using her tights and bound her with a cord. She said they pointed a gun at her and took her wallet with R1 500 cash and two cellphones before fleeing.

Monaheng untied herself after 30 minutes and ran to her neighbours, who took her to the clinic in Mpophomeni, from where she was transferred to Northdale Hospital.

“I was highly traumatised after the incident and couldn’t sleep alone at this mission,” she said.

Monaheng said she now has someone living with her.

She said she still had pain in her right arm and a scar above her right eye.

“Doctors told me that I will be fine,” she said.

Police spokesperson Captain Thulani Zwane said a case of house robbery is being investigated by Hilton SAPS.
