Women: Their insecurities and their bums

2007-12-13 00:00

A Woman’s Bum is like the Moon is a one-woman show about contemporary living — a 21st century fairy tale — written and performed by Samantha Gray at the Kwasuka Cutting Edge Theatre from December 11 to December 23.

The play offers “Grimm” fairy tales from the very large mouths of Alice, Wendy, Dorothy, Cinderella and Snow White.

This piece of performance art is written and performed by actress, writer, poet and painter Gray, with directorial assistance from Karen Logan. Gray and Logan have invited guest artists to perform with Gray — poets, musicians, artists and singers.

The play is about women learning to be necessary bitches in pink broeks, expressing their insecurities as 21st-Century women. It’s about celebrating lipstick and cellulite.

Ask yourself: what if Cinderella was a cloistered tart? And Cinderella’s stepmother a woman who’d been through the mill and just wanted to help?

Idealistic Wendy waits at a window for Peter who never comes. But luckily Dorothy found her tin man a heart.

A Woman’s Bum is like the Moon is suitable for adult audiences only.
