Workers toil all night to restore electricity

2014-10-24 00:00

MANCHESTER Road was without electricity for four days because of logistical problems.

Workers struggled to get access to sub-stations on private property and a whole night was spent breaking the concrete base over the cable. The electricity was eventually restored at about 6 am yesterday.

The Witness had reported that four days without electricity was taking its toll on businesses. Owners were also angered that they were left in the dark and the municipality did not have the courtesy to tell them exactly what was going on.

Msunduzi Spokesperson Thobeka Mafumbatha said that the problem started in the middle of the night on Monday when a circuit breaker tripped.

When the repair team went out, they could not access the sub-station in Failsworth/Manchester Road because it was on private property and locked.

Once this problem was resolved, they had to locate the fault. To reach it, contractors worked all of Wednesday night to break the concrete base over the cable. The power was then restored in the early hours of yesterday morning.
