Yet another defective Roadlink bus

2010-01-12 00:00

THE KwaZulu-Natal Road Traffic Inspectorate has impounded yet another Roadlink bus for operating illegally after its operating licence had been suspended.

The bus, which was impounded on Sunday, brings the number of Roadlink buses impounded to 15 nationally, as officials from the Transport Department have impounded numerous Roadlink buses in the past three weeks.

Zinhle Mngomezulu of the KwaZulu-Natal Road Traffic Inspectorate said the bus was suspended on January 6, however, on Sunday the same bus was pulled over again.

It was stopped for operating without a licence and failure to display its licence disk, and officers then discovered that the bus, which had 64 passengers on board, had serious defects. These included worn rear stabiliser bushes, a rear cross member that was bent and exposed and bare electrical wiring on the chassis.

Brake tests showed a service brake efficiency of 24%, a braking difference of more than 30% and emergency braking of one percent.

Mngomezulu reiterated that the Transport Department is not targeting the Roadlink buses, but that the officers were doing their jobs.
