Young photographers’ competition winners

THE winners of the Young Photographer’s Competition, run by the Liberty Midlands Mall in conjunction with the Department of Arts and Culture, were drawn on Friday.

The top three entries submitted their best photographs aligned to the theme “Love, Educate, Empower”.

Rebecca van Rooyen took first prize with her photograph titled “Young Love”. She won an Olympus 7040 camera, a basic digital photography course and a book on Nelson Mandela.

Damon Royden Marran was second with a photograph capturing a unique reflection on education, titled “Share Your Knowledge. Together We Will Invest in a Brighter Future”. He won a M1073 IS digital camera and a book on Mandela.

Third prize went to Kieran Bentley with a powerful image titled “Brothers in Arms”.

Bentley won a large photo frame, a book on Mandela and Mandela postcards.

The judges were Jaco Botha, photographer and director/owner of Photo Park; John Robinson, an Africa-based photo-journalist of Zambian extraction and photographic lecturer at Durban’s Vega Photography School; and Nomondo P. Maboea and Ffundo Mkhize of the Department of Arts and Culture.
