You’re gonna have a good time

2013-10-25 00:00

“YOU can expect to have a great time,” said ShortStraw front man Alastair Thomas, ahead of their gig tonight with Indie retro-rock band The Plastics. ShortStraw will be performing for the third time in Durban at Live — the Venue.

After winning the MK Award for best indie band in 2013, as well as opening for The Kooks in Johannesburg, ShortStraw are fast becoming a household name.

“I think that radio play — especially following our latest album, Good Morning, Sunshine, has really helped to get our name out there,” said Thomas. Besides getting lots of air play for their album, the band have also just completed a co-lab song, Kings of Summer, with CrashCarBurn for the 5FM Mash Lab. “CrashCarBurn were really keen on the idea of making a summer hit. We enjoyed the co-lab because it allowed us to branch out and broaden our horizons,” said Thomas. The Kings of Summer single is available on iTunes.

You can catch both ShortStraw and The Plastics from 8 pm tonight at Live — the Venue in Stamford Hill Road, Durban. They will be supported by Sonofold. Tickets are R80, or R60 if you arrive dressed up for Halloween.
