Zachary Amod: off to study medicine

2012-12-29 00:00

A MONTH before the exams, the PlayStation had to go and the long nights out with friends had to stop as Zachary Amod prepared for his final matric exams.

All those “big sacrifices” paid off when Zachary (18) from Clifton College became one of the province’s top IEB achievers with nine distinctions.

His father Aslam Amod said yesterday his son was a consistently hard worker, but he still took steps to make sure that Zachary was not distracted during the most important period of his life.

“His achievement is proof of hard work and determination … During his exams, he would come home stressed about some subjects that he thought he had not done as well in as he had hoped to.”

Zachary described the exams as the most stressful period of his life. “Fortunately, I had realised earlier on during the school year that this was an important year for me, so I worked hard consistently throughout.”

He said with his good marks, he was now heading to the University of Cape Town, where he would study medicine. “I had kept my choices open, but I have always wanted to study medicine.” — Weekend Witness Reporter.
