Zahara:sensational SA singer in city tomorrow

2011-10-13 00:00

SOUTH Africa’s latest music sensation, Zahara, will meet her Pietermaritzburg fans at city record stores tomorrow before her performance at the Royal Showgrounds’ Olympia hall.

The multi-platinum selling singer, who has taken the music industry by storm with her debut album Loliwe, will be signing autographs at the Midlands Liberty Mall after lunch and later on at the Greater Edendale Mall before the show, scheduled to start at 7 pm.

Zahara’s singing and acoustic guitar skills have seen her being mentioned in the same breath as renowned American artist Tracy Chapman and Nigerian-French singer Asa.

Her songs Loliwe and Ingoma have received massive airplay across the county’s radio stations, making Zahara a household name less than two months after entering the music industry.

Attributing her song writing skills to observing life while growing up in the rural Eastern Cape, Zahara says her music is about hope.

“The religious part in the song Loliwe is for people who grew up thinking that they were a mistake and I want to encourage them to pray and know that they were created for a reason.

“Ingoma is for all the people in my society who did not understand me and my music and always referred to me as a girl with the guitar.

“I want to show them that this music thing was not a waste of time and I am following my passion.

“I am excited about coming to Maritzburg as I have been chatting with my fans from there via Facebook and I know it will be fun,” said Zahara excitedly.

Show organiser Fano Gumede of fanotainment said tickets are available on 071 001 8438 or 083 499 4122 and in Jets music stores at R100. VIP tickets are R250, tickets at the gate are R120.
