Zinkplaat celebrates a decade

2013-04-12 00:00

ZINKPLAAT will be celebrating its 10-year anniversary with the launch of its fifth album, Retrospekulasie, at Live — The Venue, 166 Stamford Hill Road, Durban, tonight.

This Afrikaans band got its name from Bertie, the guitarist and singer, who asked the spirit of Bob Marley in the Kalahari what their name should be.

He got his answer by way of a sheet of corrugated metal landing on his head.

Considered “unpretentious pioneers”, the band has come a long way since playing in school in 2001, where its initial rock sound was influenced by the Beach Boys, Creedence Clearwater and Nirvana.

The band members are now regarded as leaders in their field of original rock and continue to broaden their horizons.

To-date, the band has released three successful full-length albums, as well as an EP, has had several music videos appear on the MK top-10 list and been nominated for a Tempo Award.

Don’t miss your chance to catch this quirky, down-to-earth band tonight, as they celebrate their new album with one last tour. Doors open at 8 pm. Tickets cost R60.
