Zuma: City woman set to be wife no 5?

2011-05-02 00:00

COULD President Jacob Zuma be set to marry a Pietermaritzburg woman as his fifth wife?

City Press reported yesterday that the appearance of businesswoman Nonkululeko Mhlongo — the mother of two of Zuma’s children — at the traditional wedding of his daughter Duduzile last weekend means she is about to officially join the family.

However, the speculation was dismissed by Zuma’s spokesperson, Zizi Kodwa, as “mischievous and baseless”.

The newspaper said Mhlongo made a surprise public appearance along with Zuma’s three wives, fiancée and ex-wife at the Mthatha wedding. It was her first public appearance with the president’s wives.

MaMhlongo sat in a row of presidential spouses headed by first wife Sizakhele Khumalo, followed by Nompumelelo Ntuli, Thobeka Mabhija and fiancée Gloria Bongi Ngema.

Then came Mhlongo, a divorcee, followed by the president’s former wife and cabinet colleague, Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma.

The women left their chairs and sat flat on the ground when the president’s brother, Michael, introduced Duduzile to her husband’s family.

Michael explained that in Zulu custom, wives should genuflect or sit on the ground as a sign of respect
