Zuma appoints new Judges

PRESIDENT Jacob Zuma yesterday confirmed the appointments of several new judges in various divisions across the country, including former Pietermaritzburg Judge Kevin Swain, who is appointed to the Supreme Court of Appeals.

The president also confirmed the appointments of former acting judges Mahendra Chetty, Nkosinathi Chili and Thoba Poyo-Dlwati as judges in the KwaZulu-Natal division based in Pietermaritzburg, and that of Judge Peter Olsen in the Durban high court.

The appointments take effect tomorrow (June 1).

Also appointed to the Supreme Court of Appeal are Judge Boissie Henry Mbha and Judge Dumisani Hamilton Zondi.

Judges Philip Coppin (of Gauteng), Judge Adolph Landman (North West), Judge Mahube Molemela (Free State), Judge Cagney John Musi (Free State), and Judge Roland Sutherland (Gauteng) are appointed judges of the Labour Appeal Court for a period of 10 years, also effective from June 1.
