eThekwini to honour Tata

THE ANC’s eThekwini region, the biggest in the province, is planning five of its own services to honour Nelson Mandela, with one massive service planned for Friday at Moses Mabhida stadium.

Regional secretary Bheki Ntshangase said 200 minibus taxis and 200 buses had been arranged to ferry people from around the region for Friday’s event. On Saturday, there will be a night vigil at the same venue and on Sunday, big screens will be available for people to view the funeral proceedings.

Ntshangase said no arrangements had been made for people from the province to go to Qunu to attend the funeral.

“Given that there will be dignitaries from all over the world at the funeral, and there will also be local people, we decided it would be best if we arrange for people to watch the funeral proceedings on big screens.

“We have advised those who own vehicles or those who have made personal arrangements that it would not be possible for them to get to the venue as traffic will be controlled, so they are aware they might have to park further away from the venue,” said Ntshangase.
