e.tv celebrates 15th birthday with four new channels

2013-10-02 00:00

TELEVISION broadcaster e.tv yesterday celebrated its 15th birthday by introducing four new TV channels from October 15, which will be broadcast on a new satellite platform Openview HD that will charge no monthly fees.

The focus of e.tv’s four channels will be entertainment programmes and movies made on the African continent.

Marcel Golding, head of Sabido Investments, which owns e.tv, yesterday said these channels would offer e.tv’s 17 million viewers more diversity.

eKasi+ celebrates and inspires authentic township life.

The channel will also broadcast a nightly news programme at 8 pm.

The eMovies+ channel will flight local and international movies.

The eAfrica+ channel will focus on programmes and movies from Nigeria.

The eToonz+ is aimed at young children.

“The aim is to entertain viewers with content that will motivate, inspire and encourage them to be active citizens,” said Monde Twala, head of e.tv.

In keeping with its slogan “pay once, enjoy forever”, Openview HD clients only have to buy a decoder and satellite dish to get access to 16 new channels, which include SABC 1, 2 and 3, and e.tv’s channels, and then pay no monthly fees.

Openview HD, MultiChoice’s strongest competitor, is owned by Platco Digital, a subsidiary of Sabido Investments, which also owns e.tv.
