e.tv marks Mandela’s ‘First Step to Freedom’

2010-02-08 00:00

FEBRUARY 11, 1990, was a momentous day and signalled a new era of hope and reconciliation for South Africans. In its exclusive documentary, First Step to Freedom, e.tv commemorates the 20th anniversary of former president Nelson Mandela’s release from prison.

Director/cameraman Craig Matthew captured the historical moment, and now, never-before-seen footage of the day will be shown. Viewers will also be able to watch all the preparations leading up to the release of apartheid’s most famous political prisoner and hear in Mandela’s own words how it felt to have his first taste of freedom after 27 years of confinement.

First Step to Freedom can be seen on Wednesday at 8 pm.
