hockey boys.xmlCollege lose to DHS in undisciplined performance

2009-05-10 00:00

OVER the past week there have been some matches with only two happening on Saturday, as the independent schools were on a half-term break. The shock result was the win by DHS against rivals Maritzburg College, who lost their first match of the season on South African soil.

DHS vs Maritzburg College

College has started their last two games in indifferent form where their discipline has let them down. Against DHS on the Riverside ground they let the state of the pitch and some umpiring decisions get the better of them and instead of concentrating on the ball, their woes led to a below-par performance.

DHS, on the other hand, were charged up and led by their talented SA U18 player Grant Robertson, who controlled the midfield, came through deserved 2-1 winners.

At half -time the sides were one all, after DHS had opened the scoring with a successful penalty corner.

Midway through the half Andrew Manson had a shot at the goal and in attempting to clear the ball, the DHS keeper knocked the ball back into his own net, thus putting College on level terms.

The second half degenerated into a scrappy affair, but the home side were able to go 2-1 up, after converting their fourth penalty corner. Despite College’s three penalty corners they were unable to score and would rue their lack of discipline, which ulti

mately led to their first loss.

No further reports were received, but it was a good effort by Glenwood, who has played little hockey, to draw 1-1 with Northwood who have had a number of matches.

Clifton also did well to draw their game against Westville as they have also played some of the better schools in the province.

RESULTS IN BRIEF

DHS 2 Maritzburg College 1; Northwood 1 Glenwood 2; Clifton 1 Westville 1; Hilton 2 Maritzburg College 3
