POPULAR photographer Siyabonga “Master” Mosunkuthu, who worked at the Office of the KZN Premier died early yesterday aged 42.

“Siyabonga was a gifted photographer ...” said Premier Zweli Mkhize.

“It was with great sadness that we received the news of Mosunkuthu’s passing in the early hours of this morning.”

His skill, dedication to his work and sense of humour would be greatly missed.

Mosunkuthu started his career as a freelance photojournalist, working for mainstream newspapers in South Africa and abroad.

He had a keen eye for images that told the story of KwaZulu-Natal, and was known for his courageous coverage of the political violence that ravaged the province in the 1990s.

Mosun­kuthu’s brother, Kehla Mkhize, said he died at King Edward VIII Hospital, Durban, having been taken there on Saturday afternoon after collapsingat his Hammarsdale home.
