uMgungundlovu FET college rector suspended

2010-10-26 00:00

THE rector of uMgungundlovu Further Education and Training (FET) College, Sipho Khuzwayo, has been suspended.

In an interview with The Witness yesterday afternoon, Khuzwayo admitted to having been suspended from his position as the FET’s rector, which he has occupied for the past seven years.

Khuzwayo said his suspension was effected last Wednesday, but declined to comment further.

Sources who wished not to be named alleged that the reason for the suspension may be financial irregularities. The provincial Education Department has not confirmed this.

“I am at home and the matter is receiving attention,” Khuzwayo told The Witness.

He promised that his legal advisers will be in contact with the newspaper at a later stage for comment.

Another source said Khuzwayo claimed he is being sabotaged by forces within the department. This was also not confirmed.

Other sources who have worked closely with Khuzwayo expressed shock at the news, describing him as a leader of note.

Said one of the sources, “I feel that the allegations are unwarranted and baseless because if you look at all the external funding that has come into the college, he has openly publicised it.

“Why would he place himself under all that public scrutiny and then turn around and do that?
