A BODY of a 32-year-old Mozambican man was found with a gunshot wound near the Ikwezi railway station in Mofolo North, in Soweto, this morning.

Jabulani police spokesperson Inspector Kay Makhubela said officers rushed to the scene, following calls from community members, and found the body of the man with a bullet wound to the head.

"People walking past an open area near the railway station in Mofolo North heard the gunshot shortly before 6pm and rushed to the Engen garage nearby to call the police. Shortly after this call another call came in from another community member to also let us know about the gun shot," he said.

Makhubela said the man might have been on his way to work when he was attacked. His family came to identify him, he said.

The motive for the killing was not known and Makhubela could not say if the man's killing was linked to a spate of Xenophobic attacks that have rocked Johannesburg townships like Alexandra and Diepsloot.

"We can not confirm the motive of the killing at this point, but we are following all possible leads," said Makhubela.

No arrests have been made and police are busy investigating the murder.
