Contreversial football star ?Jabu Mahlangu (formerly Pule) is said to have spurned attempts to seduce him back to the playing field.

The former SuperSport United and Kaizer Chiefs’ midfield dazzler showed his middle finger to a number of clubs interested in his skills – despite the fact that he is jobless and his music career hasn’t exactly taken off.

A source said: “A fortnight ago he rocked up at a nightclub in Soweto, looking out of sorts, with a copy of his CD in his hand. We saw him forcing DJs to play it.”

The incident was confirmed by club DJ Frans Ledwaba.

“Even if you are Jabu Pule you don’t just rock up and say people should play your music,” he said.

Mahlangu retorted: “There is nothing wrong with promoting the CD myself. I can’t just relax. Anything else is lies . . . I don’t want to entertain them because they will destroy me.”

His former manager Malcolm X told City Press that Mahlangu went awol after he was promised an overseas offer by former Mamelodi Sundowns and Kaizer Chiefs’ assistant coach Farouk Khan.

X also claimed Mahlangu turned down offers from Ajax Cape Town and Platinum Stars.

“It is very difficult to work with Jabu because he thinks the world owes him something,” said X.

Khan confirmed briefing Pule about an offer to play for Helsingborg in Sweden.

“He told me he was busy sorting out some family problems. If he is still interested he will come back to me,” said Khan.

Ajax boss John Comitis said: “I last spoke to Jabu through Muhsin (Ertugral) to discuss some possibilities. Muhsin had an appointment with him up in Johannesburg and he did not show up. So we left it at that.”

George Khunou, MD of Royal Bafokeng Sports Holdings which acquired a stake in Platinum Stars, said he was approached by management about plans to lure Mahlangu and that they were treating the matter with caution.

All these plans seem to have gone unnoticed by the bad boy of SA football who is out in Limpopo promoting his kwaito album.

Said Mahlangu: “I have not abandoned soccer. There are offers on my table and the right time will come for me to attend to them. Right now I am in Limpopo focusing on my music career and the reception here is overwhelming. I am so happy.”

His new manager, DJ Mphulo scoffed at X’s assertions.

“As much as Jabu is busy with his music career he has not completely lost focus in football. We are currently on a national tour to promote the album but Jabu is also striving to strike a balance between the two.

“He is always jogging, even while on this roadshow,” said Mphulo.
