This Day editor shot dead

2006-12-23 11:35

Lagos - An editor of Nigeria's independent newspaper, This Day, Godwin Agbroko, has been killed by unknown gunmen, say his employers.

The company said: "He was on his way home about 22:00 on Friday from the office in Apapa when he ran into a robbery scene.

"Agbroko was found in a pool of his own blood with his car and valuables in it untouched."

It said three policemen and two bystanders were also killed in the area about the same time as Agbroko.

It said the police were investigating the killings. An upsurge in robberies in the past weeks had left dozens of people, mostly police, dead in the west African country.
