42 immigrants held at roadblock

Johannesburg - Forty-two illegal immigrants, mostly from neighbouring African countries, were arrested in Edenvale on Gauteng's East Rand on Friday morning, police said.
Captain Piet Mnyakeni said the Edenvale crime prevention unit and the metro police made the arrests during a roadblock held at about 04:00.
The group were being held at the Edenvale police station.
They would be taken to the Lindela Repatriation Centre, where they would await deportation to their countries of origin.
Police also arrested a taxi driver transporting passengers in an unroadworthy vehicle.
He was fined R5 000 and his vehicle was impounded.
A man suspected of stealing R26 000 worth of cable from the Greenstone shopping mall in Edenvale was also apprehended in the early morning road block.
