Nairobi - Torrential rains in western Kenya have displaced at least 20 000 people, says a government official.
Nyamboga Mounde, the region's district commissioner, said: "We have 20 000 people displaced and 6 000 others marooned."
It was reported that several schools in the region failed to reopen on Thursday owing to the flooding.
Last year, floods killed dozens of people and displaced 700 000 across the east African nation.
