Abidjan - Three days of air strikes on former rebels in northern Ivory Coast have left 11 people dead and around 100 seriously wounded, a spokesperson for the ex-rebel New Forces said on Saturday.
Five people were killed in an air strike on a bus station in the central town of Vavoua on Friday, spokesperson Sidiki Konate said by telephone.
The government on Thursday launched a series of air raids targeting ex-rebel positions in central Bouake and northern Korhogo, destroying ex-rebel camps and strategic targets near both cities.
On Thursday evening, the toll from the violence stood at three dead and at least 40 wounded, according to the ex-rebels and medical aid workers.
Ivory Coast has been split between loyalist south and rebel-held north since an attempted coup in September 2002 triggered a civil war. The recent violence has triggered fears the peace process could collapse entirely. - AFP
