Banjul - Gambian army chief General Lang Tombong Tamba has been sacked, Gambian state television announced Friday, with military sources saying he had been suspected of corruption.
"President Yahya Jammeh, who is (also) the defence minister, has decided to sack General Lang Tombong Tamba, army chief of staff, with immediate effect," state television said.
Top military sources, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the general had been fired because he is suspected of corruption.
Tamba, a close relative of the president, is said to have been unable to account for funds that were to be used for military projects.
