Johannesburg - Police made a breakthrough in the investigation into child pornography on the West Rand on Tuesday when a key witness and an alleged victim were traced to a house in Newlands, Johannesburg.
A Muldersdrift man briefly appeared in the Krugersdorp magistrate's court on Monday on charges of rape of under-aged children, indecent assault and contraventions of the Publications Act.
Investigating officer Captain Johan Pretorius said police have been searching for the woman and her child since Friday, when the 46-year-old man was arrested.
"We identified the woman's child as one of the victims. The woman earlier worked for the suspect and we suspect they had a relationship. "
Pretorius said the investigation was progressing well at this stage.
"So far we have identified three (of 10) children on the videos." Most of the children are younger than seven and apparently speak Afrikaans or African languages.
"Apart from finding this woman and child, we are focussing on tracing the other children to allow them to get the necessary counselling," Pretorius said.
The suspect is expected to appear in the Krugersdorp magistrate's court again on Friday.
