ILO to address child labour

Lusaka - There are more than one million children in full-time employment in the impoverished southern African country of Zambia, the International Labour Organisation (ILO) said on Thursday.
Briefing the media ahead of the World Day Against Child Labour on June 12, ILO Zambia child labour specialist Maria Malila said the practice was particularly prevalent in the agricultural sector.
Labour Minister Bernard Mukuma said around 800 000 children in the country of around 11.5 million people were providing cheap labour in farming, some of them as young as 10.
Malila said the ILO was working with government to address the issue of child labour, which she said was denying children the right to an education. - Sapa-dpa
