'Islamic militants' kill four

Algiers - Suspected Islamic militants killed three soldiers and a police officer in Algeria in attacks aimed at undermining a government peace plan, said reports on Wednesday.
Armed fighters shot at a vehicle in which the three soldiers were travelling in the northern Algerian town of Boumerdes, 50km east of Algiers. The police officer was shot in a cafe nearby.
The attacks were perceived as a rejection by Islamic rebels of a government plan for national reconciliation to be put to a referendum on September 29.
If a majority vote in favour of the peace plan the Algerian parliament would recommend a partial amnesty for Islamic extremists.
