Nairobi - Somali gunmen shot dead a World Food Programme worker Thursday, the second WFP official to be murdered in the lawless country this week, a UN spokesperson said.
Omar Moalim Ali was gunned down in Mogadishu's northwestern Daynile district while overseeing food distribution to displaced people.
"The gunmen then put his body in the WFP vehicle and drove off shortly before pushing the body from the vehicle and driving on," Peter Smerdon told AFP.
On Tuesday masked gunmen murdered a WFP aid worker in southern Somalia.
Ali was the fourth employee of the Rome-based UN agency to be killed in Somalia since August 2008.
Aid workers have been frequently targeted by gunmen in the lawless country, where 3.25 million of its 10 million people are in need of humanitarian assistance.
