Monrovia - One of Liberia's most infamous warlords has testified before the country's Truth and Reconciliation Commission after long refusing to appear.
Prince Johnson, a former warlord who is now a senator in Liberia's US-modelled Congress, admitted on Tuesday that he helped topple the government of Burkina Faso before plotting the overthrow of Liberia's president.
His testimony before the packed hall marks another turning point in Liberia's struggle to make the actors of its brutal 13-year conflict face up to the horrors they inflicted.
Johnson says that he and other Liberians were acting under the command of Charles Taylor, now on trial for war crimes at The Hague. Their goal was to oust Liberian President Samuel K Doe.
