Geneva - UN agencies say more than 28 000 people are cut off from aid in eastern Congo because of violence and bad roads.
The UN says aid workers cannot reach the uprooted people, who are about 50 miles north of the provincial capital Goma.
Clashes between fighters loyal to Laurent Nkunda and the army and its allied militias exploded in August, displacing at least 250 000 people.
World Food Programme spokesperson Emilia Casella said on Tuesday that bad roads and heavy rains have made food shipments difficult. Aid convoys are being escorted by UN peacekeepers.
The World Food Programme says it is handing out food to more than 235 000 people in different areas of eastern Congo, including some regions controlled by rebels.
