Freetown - Former Liberian president Charles Taylor, an infamous warlord and accused blood diamond merchant, appeared before an international war crimes court on Monday to hear the charges of crimes against humanity and war crimes he faces.
The first former African president to face such charges wore a dark suit and maroon tie for his arraignment.
Many hope the case will firmly establish the principle that Africa's despots are not above the law.
