Sydney - Six Australians have died after a bus crash near the Egyptian capital Cairo, said Australian Foreign Minister Alexander Downer on Wednesday.
"We can now confirm that there were six people killed in that crash and 24 injured and we assume that those who were killed and injured were Australian or were largely Australian," said Downer in Sydney.
The minister said two buses carrying 90 holidaying Australian police and emergency service personnel and their families were travelling when one crashed at 20:45 local time on Tuesday in wet conditions.
Downer said details of the crash were not yet clear.
The injured are being treated in Cairo, but their wounds are not believed to be life-threatening, he said.
