Kinshasha - Leaders of the various rebel groups and militias operating in the Democratic Republic of Congo have been invited to a conference on peace in the troubled northeast, an organiser said on Wednesday.
The nine-day meeting that starts on December 27 in the Nord-Kivu capital of Goma will gather "those who are in the logic of peace as well as those who support the logic of war", National Assembly president Vital Kamerhe told the United Nation's Radio Okapi.
Those invited include rebel ex-general Laurent Nkunda, whose forces have scored significant gains against the Congolese army in recent days, former Congolese vice president Azarias Ruberwa told Okapi.
Spearheaded by President Joseph Kabila, the peace talks will also include politicians, members of the Congolese armed forces and civilian leaders and aim to end months of fighting in Nord-Kivu that has forced hundreds of thousands of people to flee.
