Kampala - A United States national found in possession of firearms and ammunition - after Uganda's recent general elections - appeared before a Kampala court on Monday charged with terrorism.
The charge sheet said: "The accused on February 28 was found in possession of firearms and ammunition without a valid licence or reasonable excuse, contrary to the anti-terrorism act."
Peter Waldron and six other men, among them three Congolese and a number of Ugandans, pleaded not guilty.
The Kampala chief magistrate remanded them until March 28 when they were due to appear again in court.
Waldron, 59, who worked as a consultant in the health ministry, had written a newsletter, which was highly critical of President Yoweri Museveni's government.
In the latest edition of the newsletter, he criticised Museveni's government for harassing in particular opposition leader Kizza Besigye, who came second to Museveni in the February 23 general elections.
