Johannesburg - A Bramley businessman accused of fraud involving R1.5m was granted bail of R15 000 by the Wynberg Magistrate's Court on Thursday, said police.
"He has already posted bail. I just saw him leave. And the case was postponed to July 27," Inspector Moses Maphakela said.
William Mphahlele, 46, was arrested on Wednesday after 54 of his employees laid a fraud charge against him.
It is alleged that his company, African Meter Reading, would deduct R800 from their salaries every month, claiming it was their monthly pension and insurance contributions to a well-known insurance company.
However, when they asked the company for updates on their contributions, they found that no such payments had been made.
Mphahlele also faces charges of assault.
