Samoan police going to Liberia

Apia - Samoa will send 20 police officers to Liberia to serve as United Nations peacekeepers there, Acting Commissioner of Police Li'o Taeu Masipau said on Thursday.
The officers are tentatively scheduled to leave for the troubled African country at the end of December.
Their will serve in Liberia for one year.
Training in first aid, fitness, communications and security are being carried out by the selected officers.
Samoan police are not normally armed.
Meanwhile eight officers have returned after a tour of duty in East Timor, with another seven colleagues expected home at the end of this month.
Fifteen officers are serving as peacekeepers in the Solomon Islands.
Such overseas assignments are attractive to officers with pay often reaching as high as $200 dollars a day.
