Kabul - Tests have confirmed the presence of the highly pathogenic H5N1 strain of bird flu in Afghanistan, says the United Nation's Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO).
Asadullah Azhari of FAO said: "We have got confirmation from our laboratory in Italy that the six samples, which were sent to them, were positive for H5N1."
He said that the poultry samples were from the capital, Kabul, and the eastern city of Jalalabad.
