Cairo - Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak was re-elected with more than 80% of the vote, according to unofficial estimates published in several state-owned newspapers on Friday.
With headlines such as "Mubarak wins overwhelming victory", "Mubarak obtains people's confidence", the top three governmental newspapers carried partial results from most of Egypt's 26 governorates.
"According to unofficial estimates, the National Democratic Party obtained between 82% and 84% of the vote," Al-Gomhurriya said.
Ghad party leader Ayman Nur clinched second place, ahead of Wafd party chairperson Numan Gumaa, according to the preliminary results.
