Kampala - Three Ugandan journalists were arrested Saturday on suspicion of sedition after writing articles accusing the country's army of corruption and covering up atrocities, their lawyer said.
No formal charges have been filed against the journalists, who were being questioned about two articles published in a new current affairs magazine, The Independent, said the attorney, Robert Kasango.
"They are accused of possessing seditious material and of publishing defamatory articles," Kasango said.
Uganda has endured one of Africa's longest wars, the two-decade insurgency by the rebel Lord's Resistance Army. Human rights groups often accuse Uganda of infringing on freedom of the press.
