Cairo - The head of emergency services for the southern part of Egypt's Sinai Peninsula says 12 people are killed and 37 wounded after a bus collided head on with a delivery truck near the Red Sea resort town of Ras Sadr.
Ibrahim Hassan says of the 12 killed, seven are foreign tourists and five Egyptians. He says the seven foreigners include citizens of the Netherlands, Russia and Ukraine, but did not give a precise breakdown.
Egypt has a history of serious bus and car crashes because of speeding, careless driving and poor road conditions. At least 8 000 people were killed in accidents in 2006, the most recent statistics available.
